Dear STAR Families,
We bring this message to you today with heavy hearts. The safety and well-being of our actors, production staff, and audiences have always been a priority at STAR, and with so much uncertainty ahead of us this summer, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to postpone our 2020 season to Summer 2021.
Please know that we did not come to this decision lightly. There were many options and factors discussed, including but not limited to: virtual rehearsals, keeping rehearsals small, or live streaming the performance. Even with those potential safety measures in place, we do not feel we can provide our families with the workshop and performance experience they have come to expect and deserve.
We know so many of you were excited to participate in this summer’s season, and we want to make sure you still can in Summer 2021. The Board has agreed to increase the age limits of both the STAR Jr. and STAR YA workshops for 2021 to allow anyone who would have aged out of those workshops the opportunity to return to that group next year.
At this point, the shows that we planned to do in Summer 2020 will carry over to Summer 2021 which means that Prime Time Nursery Rhymes, James and the Giant Peach, Jr, and the area premiere of Be More Chill are still the shows STAR intends to offer next summer.
We are offering three options when it comes to this year’s tuition:
- Request a full refund by emailing email@example.com by June 15.
- Request that your tuition for this year be transferred over to next season to lock in your spot by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by June 15.
- Consider a donation to STAR. If you would like to make a donation to help keep us going through to next summer, you may request that a donation come out of your tuition and the remainder be refunded by emailing email@example.com by June 15.
The thought of not having a summer season is as devastating to us as it is to our actors. Our goal is to find ways to keep them engaged over the summer, be it virtually or safely from a distance. Please tune in for our first virtual cabaret on May 17, and be prepared for several more this summer.
STAR may be down, but we are certainly not out, and we look forward to seeing all your lovely faces around town and on screen this summer.
Thank you for understanding how difficult a decision this has been for us, and how much we are looking forward to Summer 2021.
The Board of Directors
Dear S.T.A.R. Ltd. Family,
We hope this message finds you all healthy and safe during these uncertain times. We at STAR have been monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely. Our main concerns are to take the appropriate actions to keep our STAR families and patrons safe.
As of today, April 25th, our summer workshops will go on as scheduled. If the state of Maryland extends the social distancing measures into the summer, we will contact everyone with updates to our summer season.
Our YA workshop auditions for “Be More Chill” originally scheduled for May 12th, 14th, and 16th will now be held virtually at the end of May. Our registered YA participants will receive information regarding this change within the next few days, and the Facebook event will be updated with full details.
We had hoped to have concrete answers by now, but this situation is constantly evolving, and we need to focus on what truly matters: the health and safety of our families and community.
We do have some exciting virtual events coming up! First, our STAR Kids director, Charlie Roberts, is organizing a STAR Ltd. Miscast Cabaret. The performance will be streamed live on Sunday, May 17th, at 7 p.m. via Facebook, featuring a lot of familiar faces from STAR’s past and present!
Also, stay tuned for details on STAR’s 20th Anniversary Logo Contest. We are looking for a fresh new logo to represent STAR Ltd., and we want to see your ideas!
Please stay connected to your STAR Ltd. family during this time.
We are stronger together, even when we are apart.
The S.T.A.R. Ltd. Board of Directors
Hello, S.T.A.R. Ltd. Family!
We hope this message finds you all safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. Although our programs do not start until the summer, we felt it best to address the evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of today, March 20th, 2020, our summer workshops are scheduled to go on as usual! We are staying up to date with news from the Baltimore County School System, so if changes need to be made to our calendar, our families will be the first to know.
We are anticipating that we may need to have video or Facetime auditions for the YA Workshop of “Be More Chill”. These auditions are scheduled for May 12th & 14th, with call backs on Saturday, May 16th. Because planning during this time can only be done on a day to day basis, we are developing multiple plans for the different scenarios that may come our way.
For our families with actors in our younger workshops, we have tentatively scheduled auditions in June. STAR Jr. auditions are Sunday, June 7th, late afternoon/early evening; STAR Kids auditions are Wednesday, June 10th, in the evening. This year, we are holding auditions at Christian Temple, where our workshops take place. If there are any changes with the Kids or Jr. auditions, we will give our families as much notice as possible.
STAR workshops have always been a safe haven for our kids. We hear, year after year, how STAR is a place where our actors can truly be themselves. This disruption to our children’s lives is going to take a toll on all of us. Let the Arts help wash away the anxiety and stress we are all feeling at this time. We want nothing more than to see your actors back on stage singing and dancing with us this summer!
On behalf of STAR Ltd., thank you for your loyalty and trust.
The S.T.A.R. Ltd. Board of Directors

STAR needs you! STAR is looking for new board members! Our board members are a vital part of our organization. They help decide our summer season, organize special events, and provide support for our production teams during auditions, shows, and other activities.
Experience isn’t necessary to become a board member, just a willingness to help out and the ability to attend board meetings once a month, September through June.
Come join us for light refreshments and a meet and mingle with the STAR Board to learn about opportunities to help STAR grow.
